Shiira is probably one of the best designed web
browsers I have probably seen for the Macintosh
operating system. Shiira is webkit based browser and
is written in Cocoa. One thing is for sure, its
killer features make Shiira a much better browser
than the native Safari on a Mac. Also Shiira is
better than Firefox on a Mac too.
Here are some of its uber cool features :
* RSS support
* Page holder
* An Awesome sidebar design
* Sound effects and font smoothing enabling/disabling
for better accessibility for anyone
* Tab Exposé
* Page transition effect (Tiger only)
* Switching browse mode in the toolbar
* Private browsing support
* Firefox bookmarks handling

This preference panel expands on Apple’s screen
corner activation. This will let you do a myriad of
tasks using the screen corners as activations. It
also expands on whether a screen corner simply needs
to be hovered over, clicked or pressed with a key
command. This app also contains a polished UI. Check

from the nice people at potion factory... Tangerine
is a utility that looks at your iTunes Library and
lets you easily create playlists of upbeat music, or
playlists for relaxing. It works by analyzing the BPM
and the beat intensity of your music. Spend your time
listening to music, not making playlists.

MacTheRipper is a free DVD ripper (extractor) for Mac
OS X. It can extract commercial DVD movies to your
hard drive, minus all the copy protections and region
controls put in place by DVD publishers. You can then
use various tools to burn the movie back to DVD-R for
use in DVD players, or convert the movie to different
formats for playback with a variety of devices.
MacTheRipper is intended to backup DVDs you have
legally purchased for personal use. Any
copyright-infringing activity you choose to
perpetrate using this application is illegal,
immoral, and beyond our control.

Want the fastest way to put your Mac right into a
deep, hibernation-like sleep (no whirling fan, no
dialogs, no sound — nuthin’ — just fast, glorious
sleep). Just press Command-Option and then hold the
Eject button for about 2 seconds and Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
It doesn’t get much faster than that.

Stacks are mandatory from here on out. It’s about the
most logical way to arrange photos on a computer
display.
Aperture was first. Lightroom needs them. And now
Photoshop CS3 has them. Click the pic to take a look

action.

For a paltry $14.95, Disco leaves Roxio Toast in the
dust. It not only burns cds and DVDs, it also
catalogs them and keeps track of everything you
burned and when. It has seamless multi-session
support, many different file systems, and tons of
disc image burning options. Disco can also handle
creating a disc image from a set group of files,
erasing rewritable media, VIDEO_TS burning, and it
can even detect physical motion on laptops to prevent
coasters.

One of the publics major gripes about OSX 1.4 Tiger
is the Finder, it’s clearly outgrown it’s life, and
it’s showing. Many cant wait for Leopard (including
myself) to see what Apple does to the Finder. In the
meantime, there is another app in town…
FileBrowse is a new, easy-to-use file/media browser
for Mac OS X with many unique features, such as 3D
icons/thumbnails, large in-context previews, and
powerful grouping and sorting.
It lets you view files and media content on your Mac
using features lacking in the Finder, such as
thumbnails for most common file types, including
images, movies, songs, PDF, RTF, Word documents, and
Web pages.

There are many ways to go about making an iPhoto
slideshow in iDVD, but you don’t get the same results
with each different way. I discovered the best way to
get a slideshow with the Ken Burns (photo panning)
effect and background audio is to make a “Slideshow”
in iPhoto and export to QuickTime. From there, you
can import into iDVD and burn your slideshow.

Blue Coconut has the ability to copy any songs over
the network from other people's shared iTunes Library
on to your computer, instead of being forced to
stream them. What’s really nice, is you can select
which songs you want in iTunes, and then from the
scripts menu choose “Copy Selected Shared Tracks”.
Or, you can download all songs in a particular
playlist, or the entire Library if you feel so
inclined. The only catch to this program is that, if
the songs you’re downloading were purchased from the
iTunes Music Store, you’ll have to have the proper
authentication to be able to listen to them.
