The goal of Future System and its architect Amanda
Levete was to create a simple object with subtle
complexities. Here, the sculptural, elongated form
never strays too far from the elemental. Just try
keeping Drift from becoming the focal point in a
room.

A wonderful piece of outdoor furniture made by
Jane Hamley Wells - The
Capsule Turntable. This season is wonderful for
this piece of furniture. The Capsule Turntable
is great for a morning beakfast outdoors
enjoying the fresh air, and bird songs. A
stainless steel frame supports a simple arching
canopy provides a light and airy fabric cover
over the table. A teak bench runs along each
side of the table. Behind each bench run teak

cool. $2500 cool? I don't know, but it is pretty
cool.
Using a network of 32 active and passive
near-infrared optical sensors, it detects motion
above the table and changes in ambient light. Made of
fully analog circuits, the light patterns sweep
outwards from your motion with perfect fades,
rippling across a pool of 480 super-bright white
LEDs. It works in full sunlight or total darkness.
Without motion it calms down to a very slight
attractive twinkling.

A large sculptural rocking chair with a sinuous form,
geometrically inserted in a sphere with a diameter of
160 cm. It is made by bending bundles of shiny 10 mm
stainless steel tubing, a technique already applied
for the walls of the Opera Hall of Tel Aviv (1994)
and in the Ripple Chair made for the event
OpenairDesign (Milan, April 2005).

from the contents of 15 bags of rags, the buyer has

the idea of making furniture from castaways, at
$3,325 this seems more extravagant than economical.

PLAY+SOFT is the result of a four-year research
project conducted by a team of twenty-eight
innovative international designers, with the art
direction of ZPZ Partners and with the pedagogical
consultancy of Reggio Children. The dialogue between
pedagogy and design and the theoretical reflections
that were developed have created a unique range of
soft play furnishings and play equipment that is open
to interpretations, but is founded in a celebration
of imaginative play and the idea that furnishings can
be a protagonist in the construction of identity and
ideas. Play+ provides a foundation for creative
environments that are multisensory, enjoyable and
beautiful.
The PLAY+SOFT furnishings comprise a wide range of
product types including soft three-dimenional
"landscapes", micro-places, transformable seating,
play structures, mats, modular forms, burrows and
shelters. They are made of eco-friendly materials,
fire-resistant but soft to the touch, in a broad
range of colors and textures. They are designed for
use in any place inhabited by children, not only
infant-toddler centers and preschools but also
shopping centres, restaurants, airports, waiting
areas, and other public places. click the pic for

shape, but this modern round bed from Germany's
RUF-Bett proves that only the imagine can limit the
possibilities in bed design. The Circolo bed is a
contemporary round bed from the Fashion Bed
collection at RUF-Bett. “Joie de vivre” is used to
describe this unique creation, as its playful shape
and flexibility inspires a bevy of possibilities. A
round mattress combined with a rectilinear headboard
creates a striking but harmonious contrast. Modern
comfort and functionality are enhanced by fashionable
textiles that produce a stylish, finished look.

Dutch architect Janjaap Ruijssennaar’s floating bed
defies gravity. Kept in a permanent state of
suspension by magnets built into both the bed and the
floor, it doesn't require any other form of energy to
keep it afloat, and according to the designer, it can
hold the weight of a sumo wrestling team!
Questioning the ways in which gravity determines the
image of architecture, Ruijssennaar wanted to design
a product that used something other than gravity as
its dictating force."In contrast to conventional
furniture which falls towards the earth, Floating Bed
falls towards the sky."

The Comfort Sphere is conceived as a solitary,
holistic sensory space for use at trade fairs and
exhibitions. It offers visitors a space for
individual experiences, for taking in information and
for entertainment. Inspired by Eero Aarnio’s “Ball
Chair” from 1963, the Comfort Sphere creates an
intimate presentation space reduced to the
essentials. The design employs two archetypal shapes,
the circle and the line. Featuring high-end hi-fi and
multimedia equipment, it offers a broad range of uses
for communication and presentation purposes. An
integrated audio system exclusively developed by
Dynaudio gives the user a previously unknown audio
experience. The Comfort Sphere welcomes the visitor
with its open side. After sitting down the visitor
starts the presentation by rotating the sphere.
